SOULCIAL is an event where networking meets soul music (and STRICTLY soul music). Why? Well... because in addition to our wonderful experience at Southern University, we should've graduated from a lot of things in life by now. Today, we're most likely wiser, a bit wealthier, and more mature than we once were. If not, it's time for you to find a mentor (smile). Hey, that's what Alumni are supposed to be to one another, right?
Anyway, I'm taking a slightly different approach this year by creating an event that is more intimate and geared toward those who are "in the know". Additonally, we welcome all newcomers who appreciate eclectic music, progressive thought and like-minded individuals who just happen to be beautiful. So, we need your help in keeping this a “word-of-mouth” event by just telling a few close friends who get it. For those of you who haven't attended any of my events in the past, I've posted a few videos below of what you can expect at SOULCIAL.
The M Bar is a plush, intimate nightclub located at 350 Third Street in the heart of downtown Baton Rouge's electric nightlife. This sophisticated, Jaguar-owned venue is known for hosting some of the city's top events and is within walking distance to hotels and restaurants.
Is there a dress code?
In the past we have always disliked, and rarely enforced dress codes at our
events, but we enjoy making a positive impression as well. That said,
the suggested attire is “Sartorially Fly”. The term "fly" is very broad but "sartorial" is rarely thought of or understood. For instance, there are jeans... and then there are jeans that are cut well enough to wear with a blazer. Choose the latter. Overall, we just encourage you to look your comfortable best but clean and impressive. In the words of Jay-Z "Oversize clothes and chains... WE OFF THAT!"
Is this event exclusive to Alumni?
Yes... and No. It would defeat the purpose to set up an event
catered to Alumni if we opened this promotion to the general public.
However, we realize that many of you may want to invite your spouse,
family or friends so we’ll leave the word-of-mouth promotion to you and
keep this event “in the family”.
Can I pay at the door?
Of course you can. However, we’ve also made tickets available
to guarantee prompt entry and no waiting in line. With the buzz
surrounding the amount of Alumni returning to take part in Southern’s
Homecoming festivities, we wanted to make your experience as convenient
as possible and minimize the risk of you not being able to gain entry. Besides, space is limited.
